NC HIFU, Leading Provider of HIFU for Prostate Cancer, Partners with HIFU Prostate Services

NC HIFU, a division of UroCare, PLLC, led by urologist Frank Tortora, MD elected to partner with HIFU Prostate Services, LLC (HPS), the leading provider of HIFU technology to physician’s practices in the United States. Dr. Tortora is one of the country’s leading HIFU physicians and has treated men offshore with HIFU for nearly 8 years prior to FDA-clearance of the Sonablate® HIFU technology. Dr. Tortora has been treating men in the greater Raleigh area with Sonablate® HIFU since the beginning of this year.

HIFU, which stands for High Intensity Focused Ultrasound, is a non-surgical, radiation-free, outpatient procedure that uses focused sound waves to heat and destroy diseased tissue in the prostate gland. In October 2015, the FDA cleared the Sonablate® technology for the ablation of prostatic tissue. Sonablate® HIFU leads the industry in prostate tissue ablation with features such as Tissue Change Monitoring, Neurovascular Bundle Detection, Rectal Wall Monitoring, Reflectivity Index Monitoring, and MRI Fusion. No other HIFU device for prostate ablation offers all of these features to maintain patient safety and the highest level of quality care.

Dr. Tortora is a recognized expert in robotic surgery and HIFU technology for prostate cancer. He is sought after by national developers of new urological procedures and treatments and has helped in developing medical and surgical techniques to aid in the treatment of male sexual dysfunction. He has earned the title of experienced physician and proctor of Sonablate® HIFU by the device manufacturer, SonaCare Medical, LLC. Dr. Tortora is affiliated with the UNC School of Medicine as a Clinical Associate Professor in the departments of Surgery and Family Practice.
