A native of Norfolk, Robert Given, MD earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, VA, in 1988 after completing his undergraduate studies at Hampden-Sydney College. He completed his surgical internship and urologic residency training at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond in 1993. Following his residency training, Dr. Given completed a urologic oncology fellowship at the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL, in 1994. He has been practicing urologic oncology in the Norfolk/Virginia Beach since that time.

As a urologic oncologist, Dr. Given’s focus is on the treatment of prostate, bladder, kidney and testes cancer. He is also active in clinical research trials in urologic oncology and serves as principal investigator in several of these trials. He is a Professor of urology at Eastern Virginia Medical School and is currently a member of the COLD Registry Advisory Board.

Dr. Given has served as president of the Tidewater Urologic Society, president of the Virginia Urological Society and chief of urology at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. He is a diplomat of the American Board of Urology and the National Board of Medical Examiners.

Dr. Given is a member of the American Urological Association, the Society of Urologic Oncology, the Mid-Atlantic Section of the American Urological Association, and the Virginia Urological Society. He has presented at numerous meetings of these organizations. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Given is married and has three children. When not working, he enjoys golf, skiing, and spending time with his family.
