Roberto Ferraro, MD

Dr. Roberto “Bert” Ferraro graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Honors in Biochemistry from Clark University in MA.  He received his medical doctorate from the Rush Medical College in Chicago and completed his Urologic and General Surgery Residency at Duke University.  A former Research Fellow and Chief Resident at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, Dr. Ferraro is credited with several publications such as: Evaluation of Transurethral Microwave Thermotherapy Using Real-Time Noninvasive Prostatic Temperature Mapping Via Ultrasound Imaging (presented at AUA in 1996), Mechanisms of Tissue Injury and Limitation of Damage During Lithotripsy, and A New Generation of Semi-Rigid Fiberoptic Ureteroscopes (accepted into the Journal of Endourology February 1998).

Dr. Ferraro has a special interest in prostate cancer, BPH, erectile dysfunction, stone disease and male and female incontinence.  He is board certified in urology and a member of the American College of Surgeon.  He is specialized in the Greenlight Laser, UroNav Fusion Biopsy (for prostate cancer), da Vinci Robot, Brachytherapy, and of course, HIFU. He has a special interest in minimally invasive treatment options and traveled to learn HIFU for localized prostate cancer in other countries prior to FDA approval. Dr. Ferraro has been performing HIFU for over ten years and is one of the more experienced physicians in the Carolinas offering HIFU for localized prostate cancer.

After practicing urology for over 35 years at Urology Specialists of the Carolinas in the greater Charlotte, NC area, Dr. Ferraro moved to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in 2021 to join Atlantic Urology Clinics. In February 2024, Dr Ferraro and his partner Dr Tim Gajewski joined McLeod Urology Associates. Their offices are in Loris, Little River, and Carolina Forest but treat patients with HIFU from all over South Carolina at McLeod Loris Hospital.
